Coating and Painting Industry Wastewater Treatment
Industry Background
The coating and painting industry, widely used in automotive, machinery, home appliance and metal fabrication sectors, generates wastewater and sludge containing resins, pigments, heavy metals and various additives. This type of sludge is typically viscous and complex in composition. Inadequate moisture reduction can lead to higher disposal costs and environmental compliance challenges.
As discharge regulations become increasingly stringent, coating facilities are placing greater emphasis on sludge volume reduction and reliable dewatering performance.
Technical Approach
To address the high viscosity and variable composition of coating sludge, the project applies a mechanical dewatering-based treatment scheme. Prior to dewatering, sludge is properly conditioned to enhance flocculation and improve solid-liquid separation efficiency.
Operating pressure and system parameters can be adjusted according to sludge characteristics, ensuring consistent reduction of moisture content while minimising chemical consumption and operational load.
On-site Photos
The photos below show a Haibar dewatering system installed in 2022 at an automotive parts coating project in Shandong. The equipment is used to dewater sludge generated from the coating wastewater treatment process.
On-site operation confirms reliable performance with stable dewatering results. The reduced sludge moisture content meets off-site disposal requirements, helping the client lower sludge handling costs and improve overall operational efficiency.
